SMEC 2007

Miami Beach, April 15-20, 2007

SMEC 2007

Please note the following procedure submitting a munscript to the J. Phys. Chem. Solids, the special issue of SMEC2007 meeting.
1. Prepare the manuscript according to the instructions below.
2. Please mention the name of the session and the organizer and names of two reviewers in your covering letter.
3. Send the paper to Dr. N. Saini (Naurang.Saini@roma1.infn.it) before June 15 for forwarding to the appropriate member of the publication committee (the session organizer) for further handling.

Preparation submission of the Manuscript:

Allowed length for the papers is 4 to 6 printed journal pages. No need to prepare camera-ready copy as the manuscripts will be typeset after the review process. All authors will receive page proofs of the manuscript. The authors should provide electronic version of the manuscript (text as well as the figures) alongwith a PDF file.

The Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids publishes in a double column format. Each column is 22.5 cm long; there are 2.5 journal lines/cm or 21 words/cm (effective numbers, which take various formatting factors during typesetting into account.). The space needed to accommodate the title, abstract (of about 100 words), author affiliation, and related blank spaces, is about 0.5 journal pages. This leaves you with the allowed length between 3.5-5.5
pages. Approximately you have about 1100 words per journal page available assuming that there are no figures, tables or equations. For a figure, table or an equation which can fit in one column width (i.e., is legible with a width of not more than 7.0cm), estimate an effective vertical height by adding 2 cm to the actual height in order to account for the blank
spaces necessary to separate a figure, table or an equation from the text. Then reduce the words by 21 words/cm, taking into account all figures, tables, and equations (e.g. a one column figure of 7.0 cm needs 9.0 cm effective vertical length, i.e. 189 words). If a figure, table or an equation to be placed across the page (i.e. two columns), double the estimate. It should be noted that the text here refers to all text including the figure captions,
references, etc.

CeSMEC will host the fourth meeting of the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (SMEC) in April, 2007. The focus of the 4-day meeting will be to promote interdisciplinary research in the fields of geophysics, solid state physics, high pressure physics and chemistry and materials science.

Sponsored by Florida International University's College of Engineering, the Center of the Study of Matter at Extreme Conditions (CeSMEC), Consortium for Materials Properties Research in Earth Sciences (COMPRES) and Carnegie/Doe Alliance Center (CDAC) with active cooperation of colleagues from GSECARS, HPCAT and several National Laboratories, the meeting will bring together scholars from all over the world at the Marco Polo Beach Resort , North Miami Beach. The proceedings are expected to be published in the Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids.

The satellite meeting on Correlated Materials with Novel Function will be organized by N.Saini as in the past years.
